Shining Shakti exists to create exciting, vibrant yoga clothes for the fashion- and eco-conscious woman. We use organic fibers, manufacture solely in the United States and hand-dye each garment to produce an earth-friendly, wearable piece of art that will inspire women to be radically self-loving.
Co-creators and partners Rachel and Cathy Richardson's common love for these things inspired Shining Shakti: tree-hugging fabulous, hand-dyed, organic cotton clothing for the fashion and eco-conscious yogi.
Shakti, simply defined, is the feminine aspect of Divine Energy that creates and maintains the Universe. Shakti flows constantly, playfully enjoying existence on Earth through each of us.Â
While we come from the same Source, we are all uniquely individual and expressing ourselves in our own dynamic way. In that spirit, each pair of Shining Shakti pants is a lovingly hand-dyed work of art and no two are exactly the same.
When not on tour with Cathy's band The Macrodots or iconic 60's pschedelic band Jefferson Starship, Rachel and Cathy live outside Chicago in Elmhurst, Illinois with their two mischeivous yet lovable cats, Miso and Ti and their new Shakti baby, Sri Rose who was born August 26, 2011. Life will never be the same for these fun-loving women and they're excited for the ride!
(SAN FRANCISCO) Rock musician Cathy Richardson married Rachel Rose Regan in a private ceremony above Napa, CA on October 29, 2008. Universalist Minister KK Ledford officiated the sunrise ceremony in a hot air balloon over Napa Valley, witnessed by a small group of family and friends.
Singer-Songwriter Richardson is probably best known for her starring role as Janis Joplin in the original Off Broadway, Chicago, San Francisco and Arizona casts of Love, Janis. These days she'stouring as the lead singer of the legendary rock band Jefferson Starship (whom she met in 2007 on tour singing with Janis Joplin's original band, Big Brother and the Holding Co.) Cathy is a regular on the popular music education television series, Jack's Big Music Show (Noggin) and was a nominated for a GRAMMY in 2004 for her self-released album, The Road to Bliss (Cash Rich Records). Rachel heads the couple's clothing line, Shining Shakti, which specializes in hand-dyed, organic cotton yoga apparel. The couple met and fell in love four years ago when Rachel was working as an ad exec for the San Francisco production of Love, Janis.
Cathy and Rachel were legally married just days before the November 2008 election where the controversial Proposition 8 was on the California ballot to "eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry." While Proposition 8 passed by a slim margin, the couple's legal marriage remains intact and they are determined to continue to fight for the right of same-sex couples to enjoy the same legal and societal benefits of civil marriage afforded to heterosexuals.
